Regarding the Sunday letter, “Time for Israel to tear down wall“: Is it naiveté or ignorance that prompted the writer to call for the destruction of the security fence that follows the cease-fire line between the West Bank and Israel?
Like President Obama, the writer seems not to know or care about the history behind Israel’s struggle for existence. He likens it to a wall that was built to keep an oppressed people from fleeing their oppressors, instead of a necessary precaution to prevent a dedicated group of fanatics from sending women and children to Israeli shops and malls to murder innocents. President Obama’s attempt to bully Prime Minister Netanyahu into clasping the viper to his chest and once again give up “Land for Peace” has no more prospect of success than before. Israelis have no desire to commit suicide!
The president behaves like a child playing with matches, with no awareness that he is about to light the world on fire. His incompetence has destroyed our nation’s prosperity and encouraged a chain of events among the Arab nations that will put the world at great risk. His interference in Israel’s long-standing struggle for the right to exist puts them, and us, in great peril.
I am extremely fearful that our president’s lack of qualifications and insistence that his way is the only way will destroy our only true ally in the Middle East, and in so doing ignite a new Holocaust, but this time worldwide — for who believes the Israelis will once again walk meekly into the fires!
