Recently, my husband and I marched in the local Impeach Trump March that corresponded with hundreds of Women’s Marches all over our country. Outside the courthouse we listened to speeches regarding health care, immigration, sexual harassment and other women’s issues.
While the speeches were informative and impassioned, the most memorable events occurred during the march itself. Many citizens showed their support for the march by waving, giving a thumb’s up or honking their horns.
However there were three memorable responses. One woman leaned out her car window and shouted, “Trump is the best president we’ve ever had!” While I definitely disagreed with her sentiment, I appreciated her right to voice her opinion. The next driver to disagree with us rolled down his window and held up his middle finger the entire length of marchers. The final negative response was a man yelling from his pick-up truck, “F*** you! F*** you!”
Somehow these rude responses did not surprise me considering the outrageous statements that come out of Mr. Trump’s mouth. Something positive did come out of this experience. It led me to a possible slogan for the next presidential election: “Make America decent again!”
