I want to voice my support of President Bush’s decision to try foreign terrorists with a military court. I don’t think a reasonably intelligent person needs to be reminded that this is not the first time that military justice has been used to deliver justice to international criminals. If someone should be sentenced to death, it would not be the first time for that either.
More importantly, we are dealing with a dedicated band of fanatics. They would think nothing of using outrageous brutality to intimidate a judge or jury. We definitely do not need O.J. justice or a six-month argument over the meaning of “is.” Military justice is infinitely more fair and just than these barbarians have accorded their victims. I have no doubts that justice will be quicker and as fair or more fair than civilian justice will deliver.
