On a helium high

Totally awesome: A Snohomish man has the ultimate game room, filled with vintage 1980s arcade games. The collection includes classics such as Frogger and Space Invaders.

If you were good at those games as a teenager, you could dodge traffic, shoot aliens and repel girls all at the same time.

The Tour de France began Saturday, with officials determined to clean up cycling’s biggest event.

The race got off to a kind of a slow start, with several crashes, Most of the pileups occurred when riders swerved off the course to evade the new 5-mile urine checkpoints.

An Oregon man flew 230 miles Saturday on his lawn chair, powered only by dozens of helium-filled balloons.

The man says he enjoys floating along. “The best thing is the peace, the serenity,” he said. Except, of course, when a flock of woodpeckers happens by.

And Syracuse University is dusting off its turntables after someone donated 200,000 vinyl records.

Syracuse officials said they were thrilled, noting that any recordings by Michael Bolton or Richard Marx could be melted down for oil to power their cars.
