I was quite disappointed and very concerned that the Herald Editorial Board endorsed the less experienced candidate for sheriff. Tom Greene excels in his qualifications for sheriff. Tom is the only candidate who can step into the position of sheriff on “day one” and immediately lead the office – he does not have to learn how to do the job!
Tom is the only candidate who has risen through the ranks from street deputy to sergeant to lieutenant to captain to major to bureau chief. He has worked as a detective in investigation as well as in administration. Tom has written and presented to County Council nine separate budgets for the sheriff’s office. Tom has had the direct responsibility of administering the $49 million budget. Only Tom has full hire and disciplinary authority over 300 sheriff employees. Tom has a bachelor’s degree, as well as a master’s degree from USC in public administration. Tom has graduated from the FBI National Academy.
Tom is the only candidate who could meet the requirements for a chief’s position with any law enforcement organization within our state, based on his education, experience and training. Tom is currently the No. 3 command officer in charge at the sheriff’s office – now, please tell me who is the most qualified to be our next Snohomish County sheriff.
