Our governor’s recent call to allow DUI checkpoints frustrated me as a citizen and as a voter. Although I’m sure our politicians would assure us that they would only check for suspected alcohol impairment, it would not be long before other “infractions” are included for inspection.
Once a revenue stream of “offender” money starts trickeling into state accounts, it would be difficult to prevent additional guidelines from being instituted. To our state lawmakers: Please stop trying to regulate the state populace into submission. Please take the substantial amount of taxpayer funds required to pay for this idea, and apply it to the recognized need for U.S. 2 safety improvements. Although our state leaders have no money to fix this dangerous road they can find it to invade the privacy of the citizens of Washington state.
