Regarding the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office needing more money: If it is put to a vote for me to allow the county to raise the sales tax in this county, I vote no. Use the overtime money the sheriff’s office now spends to hire new personnel. As a state employee who works in the prison in Monroe, I am severely underpaid compared to my counterparts who work at the county jail. Starting pay for a correctional officer in Monroe is about $2,200 per month At the county jail my counterpart makes about $2,800 per month. I make almost 33 percent less than the county worker. Maybe now you can figure out why I say no to this stinking county’s sales tax increases. If I were to get paid comparable to the county, then maybe I would vote yes (though I do support school levies as I have school-age children).
