Outrages from Trump administration just continue to mount

In November, I wrote that Nixon’s adoption of the “Southern Strategy” linked him firmly to southern racists. Pat Robertson’s evangelicals were part of the package. Republican opposition to Roe v. Wade was obsessive to the extent that violence ensued.

Their Second Amendment mania, the tea party and more brought me to the point where I feared our American Democracy may actually be in peril!

Now I am certain of it.

Mind you, there was no shortage of clues as to what sort of man our new president was. From the earliest debate, his petulant, petty name-calling ways were on display. Likewise, his shallow, egotistical nature.

But it was his inaugural address that sealed it for me. In just 19 minutes, the hyperbolic phrases from “This American carnage …” to “… we will be protected by God” flowed freely. America First? Been there, done that, didn’t work! Isolationism? Not the American way!

It was categorically the least encouraging inaugural address I ever heard.

Not yet three weeks after inauguration, the outrages continue to mount. His investigation into “massive voter fraud” has been debunked and he continues to tweet on an unsecured phone.

I could go on, but to what end?

He is the least knowledgeable, the least competent, the least ethical and the least honest president in my lifetime, if not in the history of the country.

Clearly, our country is at risk of losing the last vestiges of democracy.

(Oh, did I mention white supremacists in the West Wing?)

I weep for our country, and for future generations.
