On May 29, the first Snohomish County Methamphetamine Youth Summit was held at Westgate Chapel in Edmonds. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people from throughout Snohomish County who made this summit possible. The summit would not have been as successful as it was if it were not for the loving support of hundreds of hard-working volunteers, businesses, schools, and civic organizations in our communities.
Special recognition goes to The Tulalip Tribes for their generous donation of $10,000. Without their assistance the summit would not have taken place. The leadership of the Tribal council, and John McCoy, in this community cannot be overstated. They are truly making a positive difference for our youth. And, to the members of the Westgate Chapel who opened their doors and arms to the summit idea and made it happen. You all are truly a blessing.
As usual, the Washington State Labor Council and Snohomish County Labor Council were the first to support the summit with money and volunteers. Several Snohomish County Rotaries (Marysville, Everett, Alderwood), along with Lynnwood, Everett and the State Elks organizations donated generously with money, supplies, gifts and volunteers.
Pepsi and Talking Rain donated beverages for over 800 thirsty teens. Operation Lead On, Lloyd Wright of WESCO Autobody Supply, the Washington State Meth Coalition, Safeway (196th and Highway 99), The Silver Cloud Inn (low rates), United Way of Snohomish County, KRKO, KCMS, DEA, AFSCME/AFL-CIO, Teamsters local #38, The Rock Restaurant, Tony Roma’s, Costco, Kiwanis, McDonalds (Edmonds Way), The Herald, and many, many more also generously donated money and materials. My sincere appreciation to each and every one of you for your enthusiastic response.
Finally, I want to thank all of the Snohomish county schools, students and staff, who attended. All of you will find a way to stop this plague called “Meth.” Granite Falls and Eisenhower Middle Schools are outstanding! Remember, “don’t meth around”.
