Regarding the Thursday article, “County low-balling land offers, owner say”:
My husband and I own two pieces of property located within a quarter mile of the Granite Falls bypass/truck route. The county has assessed each half-acre piece of our property (land only, no improvements) at $82,500 each. A far cry above the $50,000 per acre they are offering some of the landowners involved in the dispute.
Using Snohomish County’s calculations, my half-acre lots are worth $25,000 each to them yet they are assessing me well over three times that value. Can anyone even remember when you could purchase a half-acre of land in Snohomish County for $25,000? C’mon, those days are long gone!
Low-balling the landowners? You bet! It appears to me that Snohomish County would rather spend taxpayer money financing bureaucracy and paying its “legal team” than giving “fair market value” to landowners/taxpayers.
