I would like to thank the wonderful folks at Smokey Point Concrete. They allowed all of the fourth graders from Pioneer Elementary in Arlington to visit their facility, were gracious and informative hosts, and even paid for our buses to and from school!
The kids enjoyed learning the four ingredients of concrete and were amazed at all of the technology that goes into separating the rock and sand. It was interesting to see all of the steps taken to reclaim and re-use waste water and to minimize the impact to the environment.
The kids had their eyes open to all of the important ways we use concrete. Our teacher, Mrs. Barnard, said the kids will never look at rocks the same way after this field trip.
Thank you for welcoming our kids with smiles, patience and a lot of fun. I know time is money and your willingness to spend several hours and bus fare for our kids is greatly appreciated. You guys are great neighbors and real partners in the education of our local kids.
