Parents’ jail time is hardly enough

Let’s put Shayne Abegg’s story into perspective. According to Helpguide.org, 12.1 out of every 1,000 children in America are abused or mistreated and 80 percent of the time, the parents are the abusers. And every day four children die in this country because of abuse or neglect. Shayne Abegg was well on his way to becoming one of those four.

Danny and Marilea should have sought help but they didn’t. So now, they’ll do their time and in eight years they’ll be free. On the other hand, Shayne will never be free. I don’t think that the punishment comes close to paying for the damage they did to that poor boy.
