When I grew up I remember scurrying around with other “children” scooping up as many eggs as I could get. It seems today, however, this once child-oriented pastime has turned into an event for parents also.
The day before Easter, my fianc and I brought my daughter to the Mill Creek Easter egg hunt. My daughter, almost 5 years old, had never attended a hunt before. I sat on the sidelines and coached her how to run into the field and scoop up as many eggs as she could while I took some photos. A few parents decided to cross the field to give their child a better shot at getting the eggs, which of course resulted in many children running into the field to grab eggs. Right behind the children parents ran out to point and actually grab eggs pointed out by themselves and deposit them into their child’s basket.
These parents’ children were not toddlers, they were preschool children who are perfectly capable of picking up eggs without adult assistance. So to select parents at the egg hunt (you know who you are) next year, let the kids get the eggs.
