I read recently how the state Democratic chair, Paul Berendt, says that people aren’t angry over the new primary. He blames our state and county elections officials for dragging their feet, and that if the primary goes badly, it will be their fault!
How can Mr. Berendt be that naive to think that we aren’t angry? Does he really think that we are bunch of dumb hicks who will just go along with his party’s and the Republican Party’s agenda? Chris Vance, chairman of the state Republican Party, has stated in the past that the primary was just the beginning, that the parties are going to work to change the law to force us to register as Republican, Democrat or independent.
The people of Washington should not stand for this. The Constitution guarantees our right to vote. How we vote has been left up to the individual states. I don’t believe that the United States Supreme Court had any right to force the state of Washington to change because the heads of the political parties wanted it that way!
I am one of those angry voters that Mr. Berendt says don’t exist, and I’ve called his office and let him know that fact. I’m encouraging others who feel as I do to call the state political parties. Don’t complain to the state and county elections officials. They can’t do anything about the law. Flood the phone lines of the political offices. And I also encourage those who feel as I do to boycott the primary. Let’s show the political leadership that they can’t push around the people in Washington.
