In September of 2014, the Snohomish County Council would not appoint Mark Harmsworth to fill a vacancy in the 44th Legislative District because they felt that it would give Mark an unfair advantage in the election. (They could have appointed one of the other two men nominated by the precinct committee officers, but did not. Last week they had no problem appointing John Lovick to the seat formerly held by Hans Dunshee. Mr. Lovick is running for that seat this year. What is the difference? Mark is a Republican and John is a Democrat. This is pure partisan politics. Their job is to fill vacancies with the people nominated by the legislative district PCOs, regardless of political party. Period.
