Normally, the presidential candidates would be chosen by the time we have our primary and caucuses. This year, it appears that our votes will really count.
The top issues before the country are Iraq and the economy. The war has dragged on for nearly five years and some candidates admit that we could be there for 100 more. Meanwhile, our soldiers are killed and maimed by the thousands. The cost of the war is approaching $500 billion … each week costs an extra $2 billion. For what? The war has created more terrorists, and we are not safer.
The current recession was caused by government overspending. Politicians have ignored the limits imposed on them by the Constitution in order to buy our votes with promises of government goodies. When they come up short, they borrow from future generations, or they simply print up more money. The way the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, like it just did, is to create new money out of thin air and lend it to banks. By the time it filters down to us, prices have gone up and we are left with high inflation.
The only candidate who can get us out of this mess is Rep. Ron Paul. He will cut spending overseas by bringing our troops home. He will save the economy by forcing the government to live within its means, and stop the Fed from inflating the dollar.
We can trust Paul’s promises. For 20 years in Congress, he has practiced what he preaches. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget, to raise taxes, or spend money from the Social Security trust fund. He does not participate in the Congressional pension system. He voted against the Iraq war and the Patriot Act.
Ron Paul is the right man for the job.
