From primary voting results it encouragingly looks like the pro-quality-of-life, pro-environmentalism and pro-smarth-growth voters of Monroe are going to elect Jim Hunnicutt, Bruce Hansen and Penny Sopris-Kegerreis to their city council. This will make for a mayor and city council second to none and help toward a bright future for the city.
But, Democrats, where were you at the county level? Republicans outpolled our hero Dave Somers for county council, and I cannot believe that such was due to anything but plain old abysmal voter apathy. Dismayingly of interest is that with all the justified patriotism and flag waving surrounding the primary, we had a voter turnout in the teens. What does that tell our evil enemies about the health of our democracy? Since Dave has played such an important role in all of the above pro-positive attributes of what makes a good community, we need continued help from him at the county level to augment Monroe’s great enhancement potential.
Voters, please, turn out for the coming November elections!
