Vote yes for Referendum 67. It simply requires the insurance industry to pay legitimate claims in a reasonable and timely manner. Unfortunately, the insurance industry sometimes puts profits ahead of the people and intentionally delays or denies valid claims. Without R-67, there is no penalty when an insurance company delays or denies legitimate claims.
Washington is one of only five states with no penalty when the insurance industry intentionally denies a valid claim. This is why you are seeing all the TV ads to vote no. The insurance industry is spending millions of dollars to defeat it. So vote yes. You pay your premiums on time, the insurance is supposed to pay your legitimate claims.
The insurance industry would have you think that it will drive up rates and encourage trial lawyers to bring more lawsuits. If they play fair and pay legitimate claims there will be fewer lawsuits, not more. Referendum 67 is only on the ballot because the insurance industry used its special interest influence to block it from becoming law. R-67 will make it against the law to unreasonably delay or deny legitimate claims.
