An interesting sentence in the story on abortion in the military (“Abortion becomes issue for military” Aug. 19) says that pro-abortion “activists say that pregnant soldiers often were pressured to have abortions rather than face discharge for having babies.” This sentence reflects the politically correct distinction between unborn human offspring on the one hand and born babies on the other. What makes this distinction interesting is the story on page A2 of the same issue entitled, “Smallest preemie blossomed.” The article tells of the 90 percent survival rate of newborns after 27 weeks of pregnancy, using as a starting point the example of Madeline Mann, now age 15, who is an above average teenager.
This example makes it clear that the politically correct distinction between the unborn human child and the born baby is a matter of words, not reality. It makes it clear that when we support the killing of the unborn, we are supporting the killing of our children, that the supporters of this procedure are giving the woman the “right” to kill her child and that the killing of the unborn is, in fact, capital punishment of the innocent. It also makes clear that the killing of the product of human sexuality is the elimination of the innocent result of that sexuality, whether the child is the result of consensual sex or of violence; that when we allow ourselves to accept the euphemisms surrounding the killing of the unborn (e.g. “voluntary termination of pregnancy”) we are lying to ourselves. Such self-deception and denial will lead to emotional and psychological problems later, especially in those who take part in this final solution of how to deal with the unwanted unborn.
The first healthy step out of this national pathology is to at least face the truth of what we are actually doing. And the next even healthier step is to have the courage to stop it.
