Fifty peace activists gathered in Everett at the Snohomish County Courthouse to see bike4peace off on Sunday! We heard the raw truth from a veteran of Iraq.
Sunday’s Herald had a story about an Everett man who joined the army to provide a better future for his daughter!? His most important goals were to see her graduate and give her away at her wedding. He was killed in Iraq in an ambush.
The real ambush happened long before he was sent to Iraq by our government.
They raise the flag and call of patriotic duty, the recruiters sell the idea of a better future of job training and money for college, these kids believe every word of it, and then they are sent into a situation to kill or be killed. All based on lies. For what? Global power and economic gain. Nothing more, nothing less.
If our government sees the need to start wars to protect the American way of life, then we shouldre-evaluate our way of life before another country is invaded and devastated, another person detained, tortured or murdered, another bomb built, another life of a child wasted, another American joins the military out of patriotism, or worse, economic necessity, another of our civil liberties violated in the name of home land security, etc.
Bike4peace is a growing movement that won’t stop until more and more of us take to the streets on our bikes or by foot.
Wednesday will begin the third annual bike4peace tour. Another group of bike4peace cyclists is moving across the lower part of the country.
