People read more into word than exists

Regarding the Nov. 15 Associated Press article, “What to call God?”: Finally, someone else is puzzled by the furor.

With all the controversy about removing the words “under God” from our Pledge of Allegiance, I decided to look the word “God” up in several dictionaries. I did not see any reference to a specific religion. Allah is referred to as God. Odin is referred to as God. Algonquinn Indian Manitou is referred to as God.

I do not understand why so many people read into the word something that does not seem to exist.
