I suppose it’s too much to hope that George W. Bush’s tame, pet U.S. Supreme Court will defy him and affirm the 9th Circuit’s attempted blow for religious liberty, and relieve us of that tiresome language in the pledge of allegiance. I am woefully weary of people trying to stuff their ideas of God’s will down my throat, and the usurper-in-Chief is one of those pushing that agenda the hardest, of which his just-approved school vouchers are but one example.
I’ve resented the language in question ever since it was added, and I started long ago to simply omit those words when I came to them when reciting the pledge. I beseech you, all you godly souls out there, be godly on your own time. I actually do believe in a supreme being, but I wouldn’t try to impose my perception of him on any of you.
