The Schmidts of Lake Stevens in their Sept. 12 letter to the editor (“Jim Krider: Sets high standards for his office”) repeat the complete untruth that “(Jim Krider) seems to be coming under attack for placing performance ratings before seniority in determining deputy prosecutors promotions and salary increases.” Repeating this lie over and over doesn’t make it true.
I am one of those deputy prosecutors. I have been one for 14 years. My promotions have been performance based, as have most everyone else’s; and that’s the way hard working and accomplished people want it.
I am very glad that seniority alone has not been the basis for my promotions. What is disturbing, however, is that ever since our union voted to endorse Janice Ellis, this “phantom” seniority non-issue has been invented as the reason why, and repeated by people who weren’t there and know nothing about what really happened.
The “issue” of seniority was not part of our union negotiations. Our union went away happy with our new contract. Our endorsement of Janice Ellis is in no way related to our contract, our relative seniority, or anything other than our opinion about what a great leader and prosecutor she will be.
