Concerning the woman in Granite Falls who died in jail last week (Friday article, “Tragic end to sad case“): I haven’t followed this whole thing since the beginning, so maybe I’ve missed something.
It is just amazing wh
at has to be done to prove mental illness. I really think it’s the powers that be who need educating.
If anyone watching this situation closely couldn’t see a woman in stress … well, I’m surprised. So what do they do? Of course, throw her in jail! Of course her son knew about her mental state, and tried to get help; throw him in jail too!
The Pasado’s Safe Haven people are wringing their hands in sympathy for family and friends now, after they picketed the courthouse, calling for stiffer penalties. They ought to spend some of their extra time trying to get people some help instead of vengeance. Did they actually think the people were trying to hurt these animals?
There are a lot of people disappointed (again) at our “prosecution first” mentality.
