A few days before the traditional Rose Bowl game I was shocked to learn that the Western Conference champion, the Oregon Ducks, would not be in the Rose Bowl game on New Year’s Day.
I have been following the Rose Bowl game since I was a teenager in the mid 1930s. This year I expected to see the Ducks in the Rose Bowl. I was shocked, disappointed and thoroughly mystified why the Western Conference champion would not be in the Rose Bowl Game.
Who is responsible for this travesty – the athletic directors of Western Conference universities?
I was pleased to see the Ducks win on New Year’s Day. I didn’t bother to watch the phony Rose Bowl game. I really don’t care which university has the better team, Miami or Nebraska. As an alumnus of the University of Washington, I am only interested in the Western teams, not those represented in this year’s phony Rose Bowl game.
