I don’t understand all this caterwauling about the condition of the track at a high school. Back in my day we would have been thrilled to have this “beat up cinder surface” to run on.
Our track behind the school was pretty much just a path cut through the woods. We didn’t complain about having to dodge a few stumps here and there and sure, we had potholes that some of the smaller members of the team needed help with extrication thereof, but we didn’t complain! And turning on the speed to avoid those wolverines that hung around turn three helped to make us the team to beat at state.
In my senior year the school finally gave us shoes but most of the team didn’t wear them because if you hit a slug wearing those things, your feet would go right out from under you. Didn’t need ’em!
So suck it up, kids, and remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
