As a lifelong resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I’m immensely proud to learn that both Washington and Oregon are on the path to becoming coal free. With the last remaining coal plants in both states now slated for retirement, our region will see fewer and fewer coal trains bound for coal-fired power plants. This will dramatically benefit our waterways, our ecosystem, the wildlife we love, and the health of the citizens who are proud to call the Northwest home. But if the five coal export terminals are permitted, we’ll see an additional 60 coal trains a day, which translates into an additional mind-boggling 150 million tons of coal each year. We must stop this train before it’s too late! Everett citizens, please speak out and say no to coal.
