Elections for Snohomish County Public Utility District commissioners do not occur very frequently; and exceptionally well-qualified candidates like Michael Plunkett come along just as infrequently.
Even though Michael is in his ninth year as a member of the Edmonds City Council, his commendable work ethic and passion for serving have not been diminished. We are fortunate that he now is ready to apply his skills, constructive ideas and excess energy to assisting our PUD.
Michael is committed to maintaining relatively low-cost energy. As a result of our strong economy, demand for energy is continuing to grow. Unless we take action now, our Northwest heritage of low-cost energy will be at risk. Even with the ill-gotten Enron-inspired increase of the past few years, we continue to pay less than most regions. However, to pass on this low-cost heritage, we must increase renewable energy sources, find alternatives, conserve, protect our environment and consider rate incentives to stop wasteful use; and we must begin today.
That’s why Michael Plunkett supports the Clean Energy Initiative, I-937. He believes that without that initiative Snohomish PUD will not be aggressive enough pursuing renewable energy sources. The extra energy that the region will need can come from renewables, if the PUD is told to do that. And that’s what I-937 is all about.
I urge you to support Michael Plunkett’s candidacy for Snohomish County Utility District, Commission District Two, in the primary election on Sept. 19.
