Everett is a city that is founded on arts, culture and music. That still remains but Everett is facing homelessness, crime and a housing crisis. Now facing a budget deficit we need to evaluate where our spending and priorities are. With the city budget decided, we can see where our priorities are.
We need to focus on supporting our law enforcement. We need the budget to reflect hiring and retaining police officers, and training. We need to get to a place where we have community-orientated policing. Then we can begin to reduce the apprehension and disregard towards police. As a city I feel like we support our police but we can improve in relations with them.
We need to address homelessness. We need to increase middle-income housing and provide living wage jobs to enable people to provide for their families. We need to address properly mental health issues. We need to offer support to those experiencing homelessness socially, economically and provide life skills.
In order to address the increase in crime we need to support our police and allow them to be proactive and combat crime. We need to offer resources to those individuals that want to change their lives. We need to create a community that holds individuals accountable and also enables people to take control of their life.
