As a scientist who spent many years in virology research I feel the need to express this opinion. The political need to disparage the other party as “The Enemy” can backfire.
Although I am not a fan of the president, I give credit to the Trump administration for taking on the financial risk of manufacturing the vaccines before they pass muster in clinical trials. The result: We have them coming in today and not months from now. Good job there. Thank you for preventing further devastating loss of life.
However the Democrats are paying the price for fanning the flames of fear with their accusations of President Trump putting “politics ahead of science” and willing to cut corners. This was a constant refrain in the many months prior to this day when hope has been delivered.
Now we have the problem than nearly half the country is afraid of or unwilling to receive the Covid vaccine. Thanks to the two-party strangulation of American life, we effectively hate ourselves to the point of armed confrontation and now face a bigger obstacle than Covid-19.
