The June 4 Herald editorial (“What losing the ACA could mean for two families”) was good to alert us to the local families’ needs. Unfortunately, from its purpose of being an issue advocacy, it inferred there was a workable alternative, keeping Obamacare available to us. What is going to happen to those two families when insurance firms drop Obamacare and rates boil over? From the absence of any viable solution we all have yet to do the hard work of making one.
That will take even more recognition of where and who we are. The Republicans upsetting the editors and perhaps you so badly, are doing what the majority of voters of their districts sent them to do. Our Legislature is in special extended session because we have no consensus. Clinging to those left and right demands will definitely destroy us.
Neither left nor right ever built America. Both are later 19th-century wannabes feasting off the wealth and power given us by 18th century Constitutionalism. Have you ever thought about what our three branches within federal, state and local governments are for? Our Constitution separates and counterpoises specialized staffs to keep them from uniting our government forces against us.
Political parties violate the Constitution to unite offices so parties can use our government against us. The Constitution is the only genuinely workable solution available to keep American going.
