As the clinic manager of a local community health clinic, I’m breathing a sigh of relief that the state Senate has followed Gov. Christine Gregoire’s lead with solid health care funding that preserves the Basic Health Plan, adult dental care, and health center funding, and expands access to Medicaid for children.
It appears that our policymakers are finally realizing that cutting health care is not the way to balance the budget. While the short-term savings may be tempting, cuts undoubtedly lead to more costs and negative health impacts down the line. I hope the House shares this wisdom when it releases its budget.
