I didn’t support the Kingdome when they built it, and thought it was a gross waste of taxpayer money. I lived in Seattle at the time. It was torn down prior to it even being paid for. Then there is Safeco Field, voted down by Seattle once, by King County once and by the state of Washington once. Then rammed down our throats by Gov. Gary Locke and friends.
Then the horror of all political horrors happened. Bob Drewel successfully sued his own constituents for petitioning the government. Petitioning the government is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, and Drewel still gets re-elected. I don’t understand these people.
Now the city of Everett is going to try to cram a $50 million hockey stadium down our throats. If there is one homeless person in Snohomish County, our government should not be building sports stadiums. If sports are all that popular, sports should support themselves.
Now our government is screaming and crying about lost revenue due to Initiative-747, and threatening to cut services. The paper said that 10 percent of the people in Snohomish County live in poverty. Until this is 0 percent, no sports stadium should be built with public money.
The light rail is an outright joke. If rail were a viable option, private industry would already have it built. Besides we still have Amtrak and not enough people ride that to make it profitable. It’s still supported by federal money.
If I-747 doesn’t get government to listen and do the will of the people, maybe we need another initiative to outlaw all taxes and force government to survive on donations.
As far as Tim Eyman is concerned, if his initiatives cut taxes, right, wrong, or indifferent – until the government listens – I’m voting for them.
