The lush green forests and the snow-capped mountains along with the lakes and sounds that surround us are a proud part of our heritage as Washingtonians. Sen. Patty Murray has worked to protect that heritage since the day she entered office. She understands that it is in the interests of Washington’s citizens to get the Wild Sky legislation passed.
From the sound of things in the July 9 article, “Wild Sky caught in Congress” both Sen. Murray and Rep. Rick Larsen are continuing to honor that heritage as they labor to protect our natural resources. They are even reaching across party lines to do it. What is unfortunate is that the Republican Rep. George Nethercutt, whose political aims are to represent the entire state, cannot put politics aside to get the Wild Sky legislation out of committee in the house and up for a vote.
The legislation aims to protect nearly 106,000 acres of wilderness and it has passed in the Senate twice. It will create spaces for us to enjoy the beauty of Washington that we have been blessed with as well as preserve wildlife habitats. I understand that this is an election year but politics should not take precedence over our heritage.
