In reading the article concerning the Port’s settlement with the Bargreen family over the color green vs. blue (“Everett coffee heirs get $590K over crane color, ending saga,” The Herald, Dec. 6), I found myself to be dumbfounded. In looking at the photograph of the hillside view of the green cranes just in front of the blue water, I became even more mystified by this battle.
Though my opinion has no purchase here, I find myself feeling nothing but shame for the Bargreen couple. They now have $590,000 of the port’s money in their bank account. That, of course, is $590,000 of the people’s tax money. This will not be paid, apparently, by insurance. And, I do agree with the assessment that the color green will have little to no impact on the value of their property.
I do wish otherwise, but Everett’s is an industrial waterfront, pure and simple.
