Washington Post columnist Megan McArdle loves to insinuate that many of the problems we have now are the result of the overly optimistic projections made last year.
Maybe the Democrats and President Biden were naïve in thinking more Americans would do their civic duty and get vaccinated. How dare anybody have faith in the citizens of our country! Last year when the vaccines came out, the selfless and logical among us got vaccinated. They listened to scientists instead of AM radio and Fox News; and unfortunately their ministers in some cases.
Let me make this clear. There is one and only one reason we are in the fiasco we are in now! Not enouogh people were vaccinated! Period! If you doubt this, look at Japan. Japan has almost 80 percent of their citizens fully vaccinated and their infection rates are very low. Of course there is more involved than just vaccination rate, but it is nice to see when the citizens of a country work together for the common good of all.
I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. I can just about guarantee to you that if these exact same conditions came up back then, Democrats, Republicans and religious organizations would have been in lock step working together to combat this problem. Sure there would have been differences in opinions, but one thing is for sure. We would be at least at an 80 percent to 90 percent fully vaccinated rate and be in much better shape because of this.
