Mitchell Dodd wrote a letter stating that President Bush and his cabinet were “anti-Christian” and “symbolically worshipping Mars (god of war)” because they have made the decision to defend our beloved United States and its borders (“Bush administration: Its actions seem anti-Christian,” Aug. 17).
The writer’s claim was that Jesus Christ said, “Love your enemies, do good to those who mistreat you.” Christ has said a lot more things that were left out.
I am wondering if the writer’s answer is to open the borders to Osama bin Laden and his kind for coffee and doughnuts and have our young men lay down their weapons to help the terrorists find the stock exchange via all of our limousines.
I give this far-fetched example because I just cannot believe there is no happy medium in this political battle. God himself had his apostles write of many wars. If you need some biblical facts, the word war appears in the bible 253 times in the Old and New testaments. It was not always a good war or one that was overcome.
We will defend ourselves from terrorism. Our president felt it was necessary to plant our presence in the middle of the disease in Iraq with the surrounding countries now crippled and communicating by camel and footnotes. We love the people of Iraq, it was the evil leadership and men who want to kill us and our families that our president is trying to protect us from. That is what worries our current president and why he does have a larger picture with some biblical knowledge of the ways of the world. Being Christian does not mean just loving everybody and everything will be all right. Sometimes there is a price to pay for freedom.
