Great idea to figure out solutions for the affordable housing crisis (“Housing task force seeks solutions for affordability crisis,” The Herald, June 2).
Solutions are needed all over the country, with no state having enough affordable housing. One proposal in Congress is to increase funding with the Housing Choice Vouchers program (section 8) by $5 billion, helping to put 340,000 more families into homes, providing a ladder out of poverty and one part of the puzzle to stem the flow to homelessness.
Sen. Maria Cantwell also been working on a bill to improve the housing situation. We can work with those we elect by phone calls, letters and visits, building the political will to create funding for affordable housing solutions needed by millions of Americans.
