Regarding Julie Muhlstein’s Sunday column, “Behind bars, veteran helps other service members”:
I am a retired Navy veteran and I am appalled that there is an award for veteran inmates. Don’t get me wrong, I applaud Thelbert Lawson for turning a new leaf in prison. But when you commit a crime serious enough to be sent to prison, you should be stripped of all your veteran rights and title. It is good to award him for what he is doing with his time in prison, but this award should not even be associated with those of us who have served and live up to the core values of the military.
Don’t degrade my service and my veteran status by associating me with a convicted felon.
