Regarding Sunday’s front page article, “Fired nurse defends actions”: The Everett Clinic is completely justified in the way it handled this situation. There is clearly no “gray area” here; the privacy policies concerning confidentiality are very clear and concise, and the kicker is that every employee signs this agreement annually.
I’m truly sorry Mrs. Crossler was terminated as a result of her actions, and that there are others who may be facing the same outcome, but in this day and age of identity theft, slanderous/libelous behavior in the workplace, insider trading, etc., breaching confidentiality agreements of any kind can be very detrimental to people as well as corporations. Her situation, while very innocent in nature, still broke protocol, and the organization was well within its right to act as it did.
”All access is monitored.” Translation? “Big Brother is watching.”
