Our Everett city council members must be tired of serving. Surely, if they proceed with a project as idiotic as a hockey arena on Hewitt and Broadway – an area which is already a traffic bottleneck – they’ll be relieved of their responsibilities.
Are competitions supposed to be in the evenings when traffic is less heavy? People drive to competitions early – when traffic would still be bumper to bumper on Broadway. Young people using the arena eventually for ice skating will skate after school and afternoons. Also, many drivers leaving the arena can’t wait for lights to change – more traffic problems. Does the council plan an overpass east-west and another north-south over Broadway to relieve traffic gridlock?
Also, I think the council should find a way to leave the Scottish Rite Temple building as it is. I’ve been in areas where buildings have been lifted and built under – in Montreal or Quebec a large Notre Dame cathedral was lifted and now has three stories of mall beneath it – including a railroad and railroad station. If the council stubbornly proceeds with current plans I suggest they do this – lift the Scottish Rite Temple building, build parking beneath it, and set the building back on top.
