Program needs total reform

I wish to respond to the Associated Press article, “Plan could end door-to-door mail”. The American people deserve great mail service. Receiving mail at our door is a convenience that should be maintained. The financial analysis of the Postal Service is inaccurate. When Mr. Issa says that the USPS is operating at a loss, he means that the payment to pre-fund future retiree health premiums out 75 years into the future is not being made. No other agency or business in our country prefunds for employees who have not been born, much less hired yet.

The American people should also be aware that the USPS takes no tax income. The revenue earned by the USPS is from the sale of stamps and delivery of mail and parcels. Even though it is true that the Internet has taken revenue away, parcel revenue increases on a yearly basis. Sunday delivery of parcels is being implemented in various metropolitan areas of our country.

Mr. Issa should look at the whole picture and develop comprehensive postal reform and not just a small Band-aid that does nothing to help USPS or the American citizens.
