As a resident of Camano Island I would like to thank The Herald for the Jan. 17 article on the proposed wetlands restoration project on neighboring Leque Island.
However, I object to the headline: “Plan to flood farm opposed”; the land in question is not now being farmed, nor has it been for some time.
Ducks Unlimited, which is a proponent of the project, has an excellent record of science-based wetlands restoration. If the project is delayed, there is the real possibility that the existing dike on the south end of Leque Island will fail. The proposed project will not only benefit duck hunters, but will provide an opportunity to view wildlife in a beautiful habitat. The time to proceed with the project is now.
