Thank you so much for the recent commentary regarding the proposed completion of North Cascades National Park. As a mother of young children, I feel very grateful to the American Alps Legacy Project for protecting and expanding a National Park that is in our own backyard.
I don’t want to get all political, but it was interesting that President Lyndon Johnson helped sign the North Cascades National Park into law. To me, this seems like something President Teddy Roosevelt would have been in support of, too.
I am very excited about the possibility of there being more low elevation trails in the park. My husband and his friends make good use of the park as it is, but I’m really looking forward to more options for young (I mean very young!) hikers. Horseback riding, Nordic skiing, hiking and snowmobile use along Highway 20 … who knows what my kids might want to pursue someday? Bringing the park down the highway is going to make it easier than ever for our family to visit North Cascades National Park.
You can bet your sweet bottom that we will spend our money at local businesses, too, especially restaurants. After a day’s hiking with a 2-year-old on my back, the last thing I want to do is cook dinner!
