I’m a little confused about your article that states that the Marysville Fire District is having budget problems due to lack of revenue from property taxes due to declining property values. (Tuesday, “Marysville Fire Department forced to cut back.“)
Since the county auditor was so kind to send out letters explaining the fuzzy logic used to justify raising property taxes in spite of decreasing property values, I don’t grasp the shortages. Even with foreclosures, someone owns the property and therefore the property tax bill, even it it’s the bank that foreclosed. How is the revenue down?
