After reading the April 22 article about the cuts the Marysville School District is talking about if the levy fails in May, I felt compelled to write (“Marysville talks deep school cuts”).
How can the school board and superintendent justify cutting librarians, intervention specialists and similar positions when those are essential to education? Did I read anywhere in that article about administration cuts? Did I read anywhere about salaries in the administration being cut to help offset the loss? Did I read anywhere about administration perks being cut?
Why do school districts cut back in the form of personnel directly involved in the classroom? Have the board and other top administrators taken pay cuts, cut back on the amount of office help, cut some jobs to part-time? They need to make the cuts in any and every non-educational position first and foremost. The school board needs to listen to the parents, who are also voters, and for once think of the children and not their wallets. Once again, those who think they know best are going to make the students suffer.
