Those who use the Mountain Loop Highway east of Granite Falls should be aware of a major project that would completely change its quiet and natural beauty. Whether you reside, hike, bike, fish or just enjoy an occasional scenic drive along this beautiful two-lane highway east of Granite Falls, you will be impacted.
The proposal is a 75-acre motocross complex on 435 acres of purchased forestland. Paul Thomas Motorcycle Parks attempted a similar project in the Maltby area but failed after nearly 1,200 people sent letters of protest. It is assumed Mr. Thomas has chosen this quiet rural area in hopes that fewer voices of opposition will be heard. Noise and pollution problems make finding a suitable location difficult, and existing tracks are being closed or relocated throughout the country as communities become less tolerant. Local noise levels will skyrocket, impacting residents, recreational users and wildlife, including two threatened and endangered species.
The track is expected to draw hundreds or even thousands, making travel more difficult and dangerous for all, including the many aggregate trucks using the road. Limited parking is being proposed, so long lines of parked cars along the shoulders are inevitable. Motocross enthusiasts have every right to their activity, but not in areas where such use will impact wildlife, safety, residents and the environment.

A local group has formed to prevent the project. Write to P.O. Box 1097, Granite Falls, WA. 98252.
Your voice will help keep the Mountain Loop Highway scenic, quiet and safe for future generations.
