Allowing a sex offender to move into a quiet north Everett neighborhood off 19th Street may be legal but it is nonetheless outrageous (“Sex offender alert rattles neighbors,” News, Aug. 2). Why must our neighborhood and community live in constant fear that a predator may strike again? Doesn’t his most recent conviction for possession of child pornography, coupled with the fact that he committed crimes of murder and molestation during the last three decades, tell us that he cannot or will not stop and that our children are in danger? His statement that he is not a monster but committed a monstrous act, and his self-serving claim of being molested at age 9, are indicative of the ego defenses he has developed and employs to keep himself safe from realizing the horror of his acts. How many chances does this man get?
How many children must be raped or killed, how many families must suffer, before we make the safety of our children our absolute number one priority? Laws, loop holes and silver-tongued lawyers protect perpetrators. We must protect our children.
