As my first year as the superintendent of the Granite Falls School District concludes, I want to thank the students, staff and community for the warm welcome I received. I feel as though I have been in Granite Falls for many years, rather than just one. It has been wonderful to be reacquainted with old friends and past students and to also make new friends.
This has been a very successful school year. We had students receive academic honors at the national, state and local level, including a high school national writing award winner, the Knowledge Bowl team’s seventh-place finish at the state competition, five elementary students named to the All-State Honor Choir and high school and middle school students who received the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Youth Challenge Award.
Our student-athletes also had an exciting year. The girls’ basketball team made its first trip to the state tournament, the boys baseball team won a league championship, a student was named as the top junior class cross country runner in the state and a seventh grade student placed first in the Washington State Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
Granite Falls has the only music teacher in the state with national board certification, the first female, non-veteran winner of The Glen Williams Award for Humanitarian or Human Service, awarded by the Sno-King Chapter of Vietnam Veterans, and two coaches named as North Cascades League Coach of the Year.
The Granite Falls School District works as a team with the community. Our parents, community members and local businesses support our students admirably. This is a wonderful community that knows learning is first in our schools. I am very proud to be a part of the school community team.
