I read with great interest the Sunday letter on bad drivers on our state highways. The writer seems to stop short on the issue. In this day and age, the State Patrol not only has to deal with speeders, but people under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We look the other way when drivers are on the cell phone doing 50 mph in the left lane or the person that rear-ended me while trying to answer his cell phone only to find out he had no driver’s license because he would not pay his child support.
When are our lawmakers going to wake up? When and if we are stopped by law enforcement and have to show proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license? (Too late.) Laws should be change so that at the time of registration, proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license should be required. Cell phones should be illegal to use while driving, period.
Only then could we weed out these kinds of problems on our highways and maybe lower the cost of insurance to all of us.
